Stone Therapy (1 hour or 1 ½ hour sessions)
Stones are used from
mountain streams to help balance the body.
This massage is wonderfully relaxing and warm. A great massage during the cold winter
months. The rocks are heated and when
added to oil, glide over the body to help smooth away your stress. The body is gently massaged with hot oiled
stones allowing the heat to penetrate deep into the muscles for a therapeutic
effect and for deep relaxation.
Stones of all shapes and
sizes and varying temperatures, ranging from 0-140 degrees F, are used during
some Stone massage therapy to elicit physical healing, mental relaxation and a
spiritual connection to earth energy.
Warm stones encourage the exchange of blood and lymph and provide soothing heat
for deep-tissue work. Cold stones aid with inflammation, moving blood out of
the area and balancing male/female energies.
Stones are placed in varying positions on the body for energy balancing or may
be used by the therapist for specific trigger-point work. The alternating heat
and cold of thermo therapy brings the entire body into the healing process,
with a rapid exchange of blood and oxygen and alternating rise and fall of
respiration rate as the body seeks homeostasis.
Stone therapy requires less effort from the practitioner's own body and
delivers healing warmth to the hands, benefiting the therapist as well as the
client.
This massage is a personal
favorite of mine. The placement
technique of warm stones is great for preparing the muscles for bodywork. The stone warm and relax muscles while
therapist is working on another part of the body. The gliding of the warm stones over sore
muscles works like an amazing iron easing out those awful knots that cause
pain. Also, is excellent to combine with
aromatherapy, in which the warm stones aid in the absorption of essential oils.
